Installation
Next, line the spoiler up on the trunk. The curve of the spoiler will match the shape of the trunk and should naturally fall into place. Just make sure that it is centered left and right. An extra set of hands may be required for the next step. While holding the spoiler in place, tape down the ends of the mounting tabs. Make sure that you don't move the spoiler while you're doing this. Also make sure that when you remove the spoiler, the tabs stay in place.
Now that we have the placement for the holes, we need to remove the panel on the underside of the trunk lid. Remove the plastic buttons using a flat head screwdriver.
Remove the 2 bumpers by hand.
The handle is tough to get out. Just get your fingers under it and pull it straight down.
Unsnap the emergency trunk release handle by pulling it towards you. You'll also need to remove the 2nd emergency release that is attached with velcro just below. Turn the emergency release handle sideways to slip it through the hole in the trunk liner.
Now that everything is removed, focus your attention to the two holes circled below. This is the stock bolt location for the OEM spoiler. The mounting holes on the Euro Spoiler will line up with these.
Now it's time to drill the first hole. And yes, be VERY CAREFUL when doing this. I put a few more pieces of tape on the tabs to make sure they didn't slide when drilling. Using your 1/8" bit, drill directly through the hole in the center of the mounting tab. Apply moderate pressure, it will not take long at all to break through the sheet metal.
Remove the tape and mounting tabs.
Now that you have your pilot hole, you must enlarge it to fit the bolts. The instructions recommended a 5/16" bit, but I found this to be too large. I used a 7/32" bit and the bolts fit the hole just fine.
Using a shop vac, CAREFULLY remove the metal chips. Don't let the shop vac tip touch the surface, it will scratch your paint.
Using a rough grit sanding sponge or sanding bit, carefully smooth out the surface of the hole.
Use touch up paint to cover all exposed metal.
If you don't have a friend handy to hold the spoiler in place, use some tape. The easiest way I found to get the bolts through the holes was to put the bolts into a deep socket attached to a ratchet. Open the trunk, and slowly move the bolt into place. You might have to take a few shots before you get it through the hole. Be very careful here, if the bolt falls off the socket, it will most likely fall into the void between the trunk's inner and outer surfaces. If that happens, it will be very hard to retrieve. Put downward pressure on the spoiler as you tighten the bolt. Be careful not to over-tighten or dimple the trunk. Repeat for the other hole, and that's it!
